1/2 Compatibility Advisory Title Compatibility Advisory for ESP32-H2 Chip Revision v1.2 Issue date 2025/03/11 Advisory Number AR2025-002 Serial Number NA Version V1.0 Introduction Espressif has upgraded the ESP32-H2 to chip revision v1.2, improving product security and overall performance. For details, please refer to PCN20250104: Upgrade of ESP32-H2 Series Products. In terms of hardware, ESP32-H2 chip revision v1.2 remains fully compatible with earlier revisions. The following description focuses on evaluating software compatibility. For customers who have developed and produced products using chip revisions prior to v1.2, the existing ESP-IDF versions may not support the v1.2 chip. To ensure compatibility, please upgrade ESP-IDF to the required version or a later version (see the table below: Required ESP-IDF Versions for Chip Revision v1.2). Additionally, keep the `ESP32H2_REV_MIN` configuration unchanged in Kconfig to ensure that the compiled firmware remains compatible with both v1.2 and earlier chip revisions. Required ESP-IDF Versions for Chip Revision v1.2 Release branch Recommended Version Minimum Required Version release/v5.5 and above v5.5+ v5.5 release/v5.4 v5.4.1+ v5.4.1 release/v5.3 v5.3.3+ v5.3.3 release/v5.2 v5.2.5+ v5.2.5 2/2 release/v5.1 v5.1.6+ v5.1.6 The above ESP-IDF versions include support for the ESP32-H2 v1.2 chip. After upgrading ESP-IDF to one of these versions and recompiling their existing projects, users can generate a binary file that runs on both previous chip revisions and chip revision v1.2. Note: The option “Minimum Supported ESP32-H2 Revision” in “menuconfig” specifies the lowest expected compatible chip revision. Keeping this option unchanged ensures that the firmware remains compatible with both the original chip and all later revisions that have been supported by ESP-IDF. Identification of Chip Revisions For how to identify chip revisions, please refer to ESP32-H2 Series SoC Errata.
